Marat Blog Us

In the beginning it was the best of fun with Dima Tursunov blogging from Estoril. It was the dawning of a new era for the ATP’s communication. From there on we have been reading some great blogs every week, in which players narrated what goes on behind the scenes and uncovered another world. That stuff have been having such a great success that the ATP management decided to package all the blogs in a new book “ATP Confidential,” that will be released on November 12.
This week is the turn of Marat Safin and you can hardly imagine what’s going on.
Marat is not only a very talented player, he is also quite a character that Dostoevski would love to write of. Some depressing self-deprecating thoughts - “One more day in my life and one more day closer to my death”..."stupid thoughts started to go into the brain of the tennis player” – take turns with kind or funny / ironic things – “I have a lot of respect for Italians because they are the most talented people on the planet. You know the reasons. Probably the Vatican has a direct line with God. That's why they are the chosen ones and the country is running with no work, good for them...some junior players were in the locker room and we talked non-sense and I really felt my age, which is 14 years old” – to such a point that we can see the similarity between Marat and Dimitrij Karamazov (from “Brothers Karamazov”)or Rogozhin (from “the Idiot”). But what really struck me was the part in which Marat talks about the relationships between parents and adult children: “For some reason, after a certain age our lovable parents enjoy doing things for their kids, like laundry, looking after your flat when you are not around. They are just happy to do anything, anytime for their kids. But when you are young, you have to do all these things, laundry, doing the dishes, cleaning the apartment and all the c—p you hate doing, when the only thing you want to do is go out, hang out with your friends and do whatever is on your mind. Every age has its good parts and bad parts, it is important that you enjoy both of them.” I think that's so right, and I had always thought of it that way. Oh.. Marat you will never end to amaze me!!!
That’s why I wouldn't bet a cent on your chances to win the Kremlin Cup 2006 ;-)
